Microsoft Goes Beyond 3D Goggles Viewing


The craze of watching movies in three dimensional views hasn’t been over yet. A lot of products have come to the market for that purpose alone. Each of these technologies however bounds you to wear the all similar looking glasses in order to view the movie in three dimensions. Some of the companies including Microsoft have been continuously working diligently to remove the need for wearing glasses in order to see three dimensional movies. The new lens developed by Microsoft though still in its infancy, will help send each user separate images according to his position or angle with respect to the images displayed.
The competition seems to be getting stiffer as there have been many problems with different companies’ differing technologies. For instance, Sharp’s technology bounds the user to stand at a particular spot in order to successfully view stereoscopic images. Microsoft’s technology has superiority in terms of approaching and solving the problem related to viewing angle needs of each user. They use a camera which traces the position of each user sitting at different positions sending light directly to each viewer. There is a limit to the number of viewers viewing the movie simultaneously depending on the refresh rate of the screen. A key limitation of this technology at this point in time is the very limited viewing angel of just 20 degrees. Researchers are working on that to fix the problem and are optimistic about increasing it to 40 degrees.
The technology is still in its very early phases and it can’t be said for sure about what other uses it can have? Microsoft is however thinking to embed this technology into the newer laptops fitted with cameras. The technology will enable the user of the laptop to choose either to share the view of the laptop with everyone sitting besides him or just make the whole affair a private one. This new technology according to experts have multiple uses and will only be discovered once the technology is available commercially to the masses.
